Dear Friends & Family,
About two weeks ago, Drew began complaining about a lump he had on the back of his tongue. He finally went to the doctor after not being able to eat for a few days. The doctor told him it was likely a clogged gland and gave him an urgent referral to an ENT specialist.
If you've ever dealt with serious illness, you know that the word "urgent" means little to schedulers, so his appointment was scheduled for about five days later.
Last Saturday, he couldn't take the pain any longer, so we went to the ER. They did a CT and found that he had a mass in his throat that was already affecting his lymph nodes.
Since we already had the CT scans, the ENT had reviewed them before we arrived (I like her). She is 95% sure that it's cancer but is fairly optimistic that it can be treated. As always, prayers are welcomed. His biopsy is Thursday and we will have a better idea of what to expect moving forward.
As you may recall, we are planning a wedding and also trying to get out of this house.
Though it breaks my heart to do it, we have decided to cancel the wedding we were planning and have something smaller and sooner with just a few friends and family. We will live stream if possible and have a reception at a later date when things have settled down.
In other news, I took Kevin, Drew's brother, to a Doctor's appointment in Sacramento on Friday. It was immediately apparent to them that he'd had a heart attack at some time in the recent past. He was admitted that day and doctor planned to place stents the next day until they could schedule a triple bypass.
Doctors placed the first stent, and while trying to place the second stent, they found that two of the clogged arteries had formed their own bypasses! (apparently, they can do that!) So with medication and a healthier lifestyle, he will be able to live a normal life with no open-heart surgery.
As always, prayers are welcomed and appreciated. I believe that God is Love, and there is a lot of love around here. I'm staying optimistic. (And eating a lot of ice cream).
